Brian is a peripatetic brass and woodwind teacher in North East Derbyshire, a position he has held for the past 10 years. He has been involved with most of the major British brass bands during the last 25 years and is currently Flugel horn with the Desford Colliery Band, lead Trumpet with Harlequin Brass and Principle Trumpet with the Yorkshire Wind Orchestra the latter 2 of which he has been appointed for the past 8 years.
He started playing the trumpet at 5 years old and progressed in the school system. After competing in many solo competitions and winning countless prizes, he went on to win the junior solo championship of Great Britain in 1980. He passed his audition for The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain at the age of 10 and completed 7 years association during which he attained the Principle Cornet and leader of the Band. He has played Principle Cornet and Flugel horn with the likes of Desford Colliery, Brighouse and Rastrick, Williams Fairey Band and Ransomes, He returned to Desford 20 years on after 1st joining them.
Brian has been working for The Music for Schools Foundation for 10 years and is one of the most respected teachers in the company. He teaches both Brass and Woodwind and in September 2002 founded the St. Andrews Community Wind Orchestra. He has currently over 250 pupils from age 6 upwards to mature students who have rekindled their passion for music. |
